Grounded in Marzano’s New Art and Science of Teaching, this session will explore practical ways to communicate learning goals so English Language Development (ELD) students not only see them, but truly understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how they will know when they are successful. You’ll learn strategies to help students interact with learning objectives through purposeful language, self-monitoring, and meaningful reflection. While designed for ELD teachers, all Secondary teachers are welcome to attend and develop ready-to-use tools that empower students to take ownership of their progress toward clear learning targets.
From John Hattie's "Visible Learning" study, we know that breaking complex content into manageable and meaningful chunks can significantly accelerate learning. As the Davis Model of Instruction includes Chunking Content as an essential instructional practice, we'll explore how this impacts multilingual learners. In this session, you’ll engage with practical scaffolding strategies that give ELLs the time, structure, and confidence they need to process new concepts, and walk away with ready-to-implement tools that will help your students grow from strong foundations to rising achievement.
